"Helen, we've got an OWL out here in the hall."

Ok, not hall, but our alley/backyard.
It was amazing. Last night, as we were preparing for dinner with Jay and Kim, I went out to call the dogs in. As I looked down to the end of the yard and looked up, I noticed this in the tree behind our house in the alley.
He/she was as big, if not bigger, than Gibson, and was gorgeous. I snuck into the alley to snap a few photos. She saw me right away but did not move. Then a squirrel made a call and the owl turned it head all the way around, like they do, and casually took notice of me again. These photos show the quality of my new Canon camera with 4x digital zoom. I also took a little video snippet with it as well, but missed the feathered wonder with a wingspan of twice it's body height fly off. We anxiously await it's return.
(sidenote) My bosses neighbor lost his dog to an owl last month. They first thought it was taken by a coyote, but my boss's kids caught the owl sitting on the decks rail. Awesome and sad in the same breath.
