Green the Bailout?

Tuesday, September 30

Great! Just when I was ready to let this whole depressing drivel go, out comes a wonderfully inspiring article from Op-ed Columnist Thomas L. Friedmen of the New York Times.

Here is an excerpt, but please read...if you are even able to:

When I need reminding of the real foundations of the American Dream, I talk to my Indian-American immigrant friends who have come here to start new companies — friends like K.R. Sridhar, the founder of Bloom Energy. He e-mailed me a pep talk in the midst of this financial crisis — a note about the difference between surviving and thriving.

“Infants and the elderly who are disabled obsess about survival,” said Sridhar. “As a nation, if we just focus on survival, the demise of our leadership is imminent. We are thrivers. Thrivers are constantly looking for new opportunities to seize and lead and be No. 1.” That is what America is about.

and here is another excerpt:
In a green economy, we would rely less on credit from foreigners “and more on creativity from Americans,” argued Van Jones, president of Green for All, and author of the forthcoming “The Green Collar Economy.” “It’s time to stop borrowing and start building. America’s No. 1 resource is not oil or mortgages. Our No. 1 resource is our people. Let’s put people back to work — retrofitting and repowering America. ... You can’t base a national economy on credit cards. But you can base it on solar panels, wind turbines, smart biofuels and a massive program to weatherize every building and home in America.”

End of an Era: Honda R.I.P.

Monday, September 29

Today was quite a day. Let's just say that it didn't go as well towards the middle as it did the beginning and the end.

I was driving home from work tonight and around 11th and York a guy in a big big honkin' suburban ran a stop sign.

I am ok. He is ok. I am going again to the doctor tomorrow to get a check up but for all intents and purposes, I feel fine....right now.

The guy was very nice that ran the light. He immediately pulled over and helped me get my car out of the busy York St. traffic. Both of my airbags in the 1995 civic deployed so I am sure that helped the situation. I had to dig around for my iPhone as it had flown off the seat and onto the ground under the dash.

Mostly I feel aweful for these reasons:

  • It was Christy's pride and joy. She has had this car for over 10 years.

  • It has low miles, ran like a charm AND I had just put a new stereo in it AND just cleaned it from top to bottom.

  • and finally, the economy is tanking, we have no car payments right now but will ultimately end up with one because the guy's insurance company will probably give us a mere blue book value which does not help us out at all.

Go carless?
Get a Prius?
Get a Honda Fit?
Bike more?

Thanks for stopping by.

Welcome Fall!

Monday, September 22

Hello Fall. I've been waiting for you. Now could you please bring on that cool, crisp air, temperatures and brilliant-colored leaf display you so aptly know how to do? Thanks.

As you can see, both Christy and myself have new blog looks. Yes, it took awhile. We kind of skipped Summer but I cannot make excuses other than that she is almost 10 months old and takes a lot of energy.

Anyway, the new headers use a combination of photoshop brushes creatively supplied by Brusheezy, Fly Guy, Design Fruit and the background tile is from bgpatterns.com where you can customize the icons, colors, size, and texture, plus a little artistic display of myself. I apologize in advance to Hadley for any embarrassment in the future.

I hope to be better about posting, but Twitter has definitely impacted blogging, don't you think?

Pretty stoked about this weekend

Friday, September 5

On Saturday, Hadley, Christy and I get to meet Brody, and I get to hang out with my best buddy Marcus and Alyssa. Christy and I have been looking forward to this since we booked our trip. This is a much-needed vacay, and even Hana cannot crimp our New England vacay. I am also looking forward to our New Hampshire getaway into the White Mountains and visiting the old Allbee Farm. Oh yeah AND I get to hang with the MIL and FIL. They are good hosts. Who can beat wine with mexican food?

Lots of Lumber. Little Slumber.

Thursday, September 4

I have not been posting, obviously, because of my busy schedule lately. Christy and Hadley have been on vacation in the northeast, so with the house relatively quiet, I thought I would get some much needed sleep, chores done, and do the things one usually can't do with a wife and kid around, such as:

    eat at wendy's
eat cereal for breakfast, lunch AND dinner
    nap whenever you want
go to movies on a whim
ROCK OUT to the worst ( best ) metal and 80's music
    PLAY GUITAR obnoxiously loud
BUILD a massive storage shelving structure in the garage (photos to come)
    MISS your daughter
    MISS your wife

But as it turns out, I was awake at 3am, 5am and then overslept three days this week. I have not slept soundly at all.

So yes, I was building shelves in the garage. One day I had major help from my buddy Jeff who has all the skills. The next day I worked alone and it was much more work, yet I still managed to accomplish a shelf. Then last night I finished up the most important shelf. The "stereo" shelf. Now the receiver with the Airport Express have a place to all their own.

I wish I had the pics to post but they are still on the camera. I will try to add them tonight.

So in lieu of missing pictures, here is a video the most amazing treehouse.

P.S. Palin's speech was truly full of lies. Come on.
