Rummage Sale-Saturday Oct. 1st

We're on Craigslist too. Come by 8am to 1pm
4 Person Rummage Sale. Good stuff. Jcrew, sweaters, shirts, pants, household items, stereo gear, speakers, backpack, more!

Foos/Weezer tonight!

It's gonna be a good night! The Foo Fighters, Weezer are at the Pepsi Center tonight. I would much prefer them being at the Fillmore where Dave Grohl is in his element, but I will take this! Going with more girls again. jeez. Christy, Me, April and Roxann. Should be awesome.

It's beginning to feel a lot like sweater time

Just like an overbearing mother of a newborn, Dave goes overboard when the first sign of Fall slash cold weather hits. A few days ago it dropped down to 55 and the high was 57. So, I went into the garage and pulled out the storage bins full of Jcrew sweaters. I think, at last count, i have about 21. Crrazy! We are also having a rummage sale tomorrow, Saturday if anyone wants to stop by. Got lots of goodies. I will post the link to Craigslist when we get it done.

oh, and here are two pics from Christy's bday sushi dinner outing with Burt and Lora. What a great couple they are!

Two FREE Foo Fighters Tickets

To the first two people that can tell me why the Foo is the best ever! The show is this Friday night, Sept. 30th at the Pepsi Center.
Thanks,
Dave

"Wicked" Good Weekend!

This weekend was wicked fun. First we were invited over for dinner to our good friends Jeff and Cynthia's house. Good times. Then Saturday, we tooled around in the new XC70 doing errands and spent way too much money at the mall. That night we met Burt and Lora for sushi at Fontana on Alameda. Another award-winning sushi experience. Burt and Lora are such good company.
Sunday came and it was time for the Wicked The Musical. What an incredible show. It is based on the Wizard of Oz's other perspective: Long before Dorothy dropped in, two other girls meet in the Land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these two unlikely friends end up as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch makes for the most spellbinding new musical in years.
4 Thumbs up. Without a doubt, better than last Sept. 24 weekend. Happy Bday Christy.

Well after much deliberation to end my Toyota-owner status, I have chosen another maker. Volvo. I got a 2002 Volvo XC70 Cross Country. It is Green/Metallic Gray. It is an awesome car. It has a few miles on it, but well worth it. The pics don't do it justice but I will try to get a few more when the sun comes out.

Some may say, "Dave just wants the yuppie lifestyle and is living a dream buying this car." and they may also be saying "You paid too much money for a wagon, why not just get a VW or Ford Focus?" Well, to them I say this: "I did a lot of research, test drove some cars, SUVs and searched the web for the perfect car. I really wanted another 4Runner because my truck could not carry passengers. When we went to Santa Fe with my parents, I could not haul them in my Tacoma. My dad even said "well, where are we going to sit?", he was right. I wanted the 4Runner b/c i love Toyota, they have a impeccable track record, style, and class. But now, especially with gas prices, I could not deal with the guilt and stigma of driving such a gas guzzler. I also think the new ones are a bit too big. I wanted a safe, reliable, stylish, and gas miser. I took a look at the Subaru Outback, which two of my friends just bought. I like them a lot. My friends, and the car. But I didn't feel they were as stylish as I wanted. I was close to getting one tho. Great choice guys! And i wanted to stay away from the VW cuz of their horrible repair records. And the Audi just was too much money. So here I am with the XC70. I bought if from a local "dealer" eric hurtado at Solid Cars. He owns this small Volvo shop on Broadway. he is not a salesman. He was also recommended to me by our Denver Post Car Guy/Reviewer, Bud Wells. I never felt any pressure and he seems like a very honest guy. All his cars are purchases at auction, and he only buys quality, clean 2002-2003 volvos. I highly recommend him.

Age-battling elixer...or good genes.

My buddy Pete and I have been writing and he just sent this note.

"hey, dave: just checked out your website, looks great. damn, are you drinking some sort of age-battling elixer? you look younger and younger as each year passes. maybe you lost weight? you look good, if i may say that about another guy."

Thanks pete.

See dudes, moisturizing face lotion with an spf 15 every day is not such a stupid thing, eh?

Busy Week. New paper, Weddings, Stuff

Hello, and sorry for the delay. Umm, it was a busy week.
CAs friend Holly got married. So the rehearsal dinner was Friday night. Good food. Saturday BIG and exciting news! The Wall Street Journal came out with their first Weekend Edition. They have changed the layout a bit with three refers at the top in color and have a few new sections. I like the angles of news and living stories. Thanks for keeping me in-the-know.
So, stepping back a few days, Thursday night CA asked me what I planned on wearing to the wedding on Saturday. I replied, "well, i have my standard wedding attire, the blue blazer, gray wool pants and a tie." she said I better try it on, so I dug them all out of the closet and when I presented myself to her, there was a pause and she says.."uh, nope, I don't think that's going to work." One look in the mirror and I knew why. Apparently since the last wedding I went to, I have lost weight. The jacket hung on me, too broad shouldered, and the pants were baggy and misshapen. So...I started looking for other apparel to satisfy both our ideals. To no avail. So we came up with an alternate plan that had me in a these new gray pants, and white shirt and tie. I am not the sharpest dressed man at the Ball, ever, but when I go to a wedding now, I want to wear something relatively fly and I must have a jacket. So on Saturday morning after Christy left to take the Bride for the rest of the afternoon for pre-wedding fixes like getting hair done and "wedding first aid" supplies, I headed to the mall to see what I could find. I called in my back-ups, Erica-was too busy with work and a wedding, and Roxann-she was free. Someone needed to accompany me to make sure I wouldn't walk out mismatched. So before Roxann could even meet me at JCrew, I had found my new suit! It is a navy blue jacket and pants. Simple, classic. You know, just like Moi. When she showed up, I got the thumbs up with a little convincing that I will get it altered just a smidge. And I will. Thanks Rox. So, I went home and cleaned the house to burn off the burrito I got on the way home. The wedding was nice. The bride was white and crying, but what caught my eye the most was my girlfriend walking down the isle. Three people commented to me on how hot she looked and I said "Yeah!, wow! THAT is my girlfriend!" It went for about an hour, which was shorter than we all thought since after seeing the wordy program it looked like we would be there for three. After the wedding we all met at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science where the reception was being held. What a gorgeous venue. It overlooks downtown Denver and the mountains. Cocktails and hors'd ovres were served on main level, and you could walk up three more levels to the overlook deck that did just that. It was incredible. The dinner was salmon and/or roast beef, it was a buffet style with goodies. The dancing took place on the second level where you could look out over the city as you while shaking it to YMCA. Good times.

ok, more gloating. Lamp Post.

Ok, here are two pics. Ok, I gotta go, GG is starting!
It's level, really, it is, N,S,E,W!

GG Bay-Bee!

Tonight is the season opener for Gilmore Girls! I am stoked. We were going to have a party but it snuck up on us so fast that we ended up just calling two people, and one I cannot get ahold of. Martin, if you are out there, email me!

In other news....
I did one of the most domestic "man" things this Saturday. We bought a lamp post for the front. Apparently the old one was knocked over by the previous owner and his bad lawnmowing. So I decided since some vagrants stole our little walk lights, that we better get a new post in soon, for it will be Halloween soon and the ghouls will be tricking. Also, it would be nice for any guests who come visit, to actually be able to see themselves safely up and down the stairs.
so, we went and got a bag of cement, new wire, and some electrical tape. I dug out the old cement footings, cut the old wire.
stole some sand from the back alley, which the city says we own, anyway, so not really stealing. Put in the new post, threw some cement in the hole filled it with water, and presto! new post. The connecting of the wires to the new lamp was the toughtest part, which I enlisted christy's help. so just as the sun went down we had light. LIGHT! so bright, i am waiting for aliens to land. I don't have a finished pic yet, but here are a few from the beginning. It felt good to do this project, so hopefully i will be inspired and empowered to do more. Christy was impressed.

Then, Sunday was The Bay Dog Day in Broomfield. My coworker Nancy suggested we all participate. What a hoot. Here are the pics.

Labor Day Weekend :: Gas is $3.00 to $3.39/gallon

First of all, please donate anything you can towards the displaced and unfortunate refugees of Louisianna, Mississippi, and Alabama.

Second, it was a busy weekend. First we went Volvo shopping to no avail, then started scraping paint in the bathroom. Then Sunday we went with Jay and Kim and Lori for a hike at Brainerd Lake's Blue Lake trail. According to Jay's trusty Garmin, we went about 3 miles up and then back. It took about 2:45 hours to do it round trip. It was gorgeous. I paid $3.00 for gas. That equates to about $43.00 to fill the tank. O boy!

The Monday we really went to town on the bathroom. It was back-breaking work. We discovered that there was lead paint under the latex. The latex topcoat was peeling off by the sheet but it took a good 3 hours of scraping, sanding and more chiseling to get most of it off. Come to find out, the previous previous owners had painted the entire damn bathroom pink. Ceilings and trim included. So to make a 2 hour task take 6 hours, we are almost finished with the bathroom, in new, Benjamin Moore Georgian Green. Here are highlights. Before and After.

Go figure....

Fema Story

----

here we go, and let the comments begin, but, I am sorry, yes, the gov't is sending money and yes Bush has made an "appearance" but why are there excuses running around saying " well, we weren't prepared for SUCH a disaster" or "funds will be diverted to help these refugees, but it will take some time." Come on! This was bound to happen and after reading this article, it is apparent again, that more money needs to be spent at home, rather than in Iraq.

Bloom got legs!

Watch out, lock up the dog, hide the knives and candles and DVDs and secure down the table and chairs and wine cooler, cuz Bloom is walking and it is sooooo cute.
