Prayers for New Orleans and Mississippi

Our hearts and thoughts go out to all the people affected by Hurricane Katrina.
They got 80% of the people evacuated but there are still people dying and water is still rising.
Levees are breaking and most of New Orleans is flooded. I know people that live there and it is just tragic.

Oh, how the garden grows...and yard weaves!

The yard is looking incredible. I am getting the weave down something fierce this year. Soon, the Rockies will be asking to play an inning on it. ( this is my first EVER sport reference.) Notice the weave from corner to corner and it's lushness.

Backyard Guardian/Big Sale

Well it was quite a weekend. Went to a bachelor party on Friday night and met some cool guys. Ended up leaving around 10:30 but woke up Saturday not feeling so well. It was 7:30 when i awoke to drive up to Erie to participate in the 80-90 Home Garage Sale in my sister's development. OMG. It was chaos. people running around in the streets, making bargains, making bids, and people selling EVERYTHING. I think i even saw a baby for sale, ha! Anyway, i went to my storage unit and got my bed, couch, and some other odds -n- ends. This was awesome. We ended up selling everything, the bed, couch, grill, coffee table, some clothes, shoes, and glasses, for a total of about $400. What a day. Jinnie and Marc sold their TV, VCR, a nice tent and other random items. It was a good day.
Sunday came around and I felt like i was getting sick. But managed to take the day, cleared out the rest of my storage unit and now will save $100/ mo. I just have to find room in the garage now. Thanks for your help, CA.

the cleansing felt good.

So after piling my stuff in the garage, christy went out to the alley to throw some stuff away. here, she found this. I thought it would be cute for him to watch over our yard for awhile, until someone steals him, or the weather deteriorates his exoskeleton. Fall is just around the corner.

More Veggie Madness!

Christy went out to grab a squash for dinner and was overtaken by joy when she found 5 ripe tomatoes, a HUGE cauliflower head, ready for the guillotine, two more humungous ( for you, mom) squash and zuchinni and some big leaves of basil.
Madness!! The tomatoes tasted like sugar they were so sweet, and the squash still melts in your mouth. Christy is not sure if she can eat cauliflower yet, due to her new diet.

Happy Birthday Mither Gibthn!

Gibson is 5 today! Yay! We celebrated in style. He got a T-Bone steak....yep, a real steak. And a new liver and bacon dog bone which he took down in about 10 minutes. And he got to bark as much as he wanted without being scolded. And he got to get up on the bed for awhile. Weeeeeee! We are very busy the next weekends, so hopefully in two weeks, we will celebrate with more people and dogs with a full-fledged BBQ, complete with liver cake and beer ( for the parents)!
Send mithergibthn and birthday wish!

Reaping the benefits of the Land

The squash are getting out of control! We are picking at least 2 a night now. The tomatos are starting to turn red, hopefully we will have some ready to eat by mid-week. CA came in last night and said "we a have pumpkin!" weeeeeee! our first one. He's only the size of an apple, but there's still 2 months before Halloween. We also have brocolli, and cauliflower. The cauli is hugh, should be ready for the salad any day. We also have a few cucumbers, very oddly shaped cuks, i might add, but still. It is fun just to look at the garden from the patio. It is bodacious! It is thriving. And it is all ours, grown from seedlings or small plants. I have not checked for the big yellow garden spiders yet, but have seen traces of web, so hopefully i can get a pic of one of them. They are a fascinating as the garden jungle itself.

Back to Skool

this week, some kids had to go back to school. i don't have kids, but i know this because the bus is now full. then there are the thugs who take up an entire seat by sitting at an angle with their lowride pantshorts hanging to their shins. i had a run in with a "thug" last year who thought he owned his seat. he blasted off some incomprehensible sentence which i translated to, "don't sit next to me, this is my territory, yuppy scum." well, i sat there anyway. it's a public bus, live with it.
so, this is why i do not like school in session. maybe a bit selfish, but i can deal with it in hopes "he" is getting an education.

in other more important news: It's my mom's birthday today. Happy Birthday, Mom. I love you.

Dead Ringer :: Rockstar or Me? You decide.

I used to wear heavy, thick, dark-rimmed glasses. Now I wear more discreet black rimmed glasses. But for the past three or four years I have been mistaken for the lead singer of the Barenaked Ladies, Stephen Page. I'd be out and about or at a concert, mainly the Fillmore's bathroom, guys (and girls) would stop and whisper, "dude, that's the singer for the Barenaked Ladies." I didn't know what he looked like or what his name was, but i figured he must be a good looking, good-with-the-ladies, type of guy. Then this week, he was in town headlining the 65 Roses concert, a benefit for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, which coincided with the Centrix Financial Grand Prix of Denver. My boss hung his pic up on my cube wall. We all gathered around to exclaim how closey related we looked. I have to admit, and I usually don't, that this guy, does, in-fact, look alot like me. Even down to the watch. Crazy. I guess I should use it to my advantage and begin signing autographs or get backstage passes...heck, I might even try to get free drinks out of it.

---

In other news, I have racked my neck again. This time it was from deep tissue massage gone bad. I get them all the time, but this time, it was too much. I even had to take a 1/2 off from work to go home, take a pain killer and two muscle relaxers. I love my massager person, but this killed me.

Cool weekend

Yes, it was cool, and cool.
Saturday, it was high of 65. Rainy, overcast and perfect. I miss more days like this. I love sun, but the overcast days give you a reason to chill out.
Craig, christy's old drummer bandmate called, their friend Mary Beth was in town from L.A. doing a gig at this year's LILTfest. The festival was actually really cool too, and fun. Aside from the drunken antics of a young lesbo hottie trying to grab Mary Beth's acoustic guitar while she sang, Mary Beth rocked. She is a talented guitarist/songwriter that should be higher up on the success pole by now, with her insightful outlook on life, and well-thought out, but natural chord progressions. Please check out her stuff at the link above.
Craig summed up the event with this thought. " It's easy to get into the guys bathroom at this kind of event....no lines." I could have stayed longer but we bailed after MB was done.

----

Later that day, C and I were reminiscing on Santa Fe food, so we took a stab at a co-workers recommendation of Julia Blackbirds, up in Highlands. Good food. A little dry and not quite SF caliber, but satisfying. We shopped around on 32nd and Lowel which was fresh and fun too. I love Highlands when it is overcast, especially at Christmastime.

----

Sunday, we attended the Bronze Festival in Loveland with Connie and Tony. It was overcast again. Found a lady who did Bronze dachshund sculptures. Amazingly life-like and life size. If you have never been, i recommend making the 48 minute drive from Denver.

Metal Time Warp

My life keeps getting better every day.
First, it was Judas Priest, two weeks ago. Then Motley Crue last Saturday. Then last night....the big kahuna, Iron Maiden! Yeah, scream for me denvah! The boys from england ( and i don't mean the Beatles) were back with a vengeance. It was like I have slipped into a time warp back to 1988. It's been good, but i have to admit that I am glad the stretch of metal is over for awhile.
Ok, just got through mowing, need to rest. Talk soon.

p.s. by the way, AMY, thanks for the cool song lyrics and for FINALLY identifying yourself. I appreciate your readership and input. NOW very appropriate.

More Skyland neighborhood action

Last night around 8:00pm we received a reverse 911 call. It says "Alert" on the caller ID. But there was no message, but Christy figured it must be something to do with an escapee or indigent running loose in our area b/c you could hear sirens and helicopters ( are we in Compton? ) hovering overhead. Anyway, about 20 minutes later, another reverse 911 came in, only this one was in Spanish. This secured our suspicion of a demographic signal and that we definitely were in the middle of something and the city was singling out our zip code ( un-civilized, social degenerated, not-quite-gentrified ). Anyway, we turned on the TV to get any updates to no avail, so i turned to the most informative up-to-date resource, the internet. It was sort of what we expected...the carjacker who shot singer Mark Cohn ( famous for his "Walking in Memphis" song) who had just played the Botanic Gardens. And we were right! He was holed up in a house about 5 blocks from ours. They finally caught the guy around 11:30pm. Crazy!

Up early!

Christy and friends headed to Vegas today for the first leg of a 3-part bachelorette celebration...
I was up at 4:20am to shuttle a few to the airport. I actually like getting up early. It makes you feel like you have a jump on everyone else for the day...that lasts until the third americano wears off attttttttttttzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! Hello? Where am I? Oh, sorry. Anyway, I dropped them off at around 5:20 and was home by 5:57am. I decided not to go back to bed for fear of oversleeping, so I made a pot of coffee, Dazbog ( have you tried it? it is GOOH OOD!), fried up three egg whites and some toast and sat down with Gibson and watched two episodes of Gilmore Girls. Now THAT is what I call a good morning!
I have a busy "guys" weekend planned with the Coyote Ugly Bias party tonight, then First Friday. Tomorrow is Motley Crue at Red Rocks and Sunday am helping Jinnie fix up the condo. Intermixed will be many hours of freelance. Have a great weekend.

Happy Birthday Bloom!!!!!!

Bloom turned One on Thursday so the family celebrated with a trip to visit the other grandparents in Albuquerque. Christy and I stayed in Santa Fe on Thursday, drove down to Alb on Friday to meet the parents at the airport. Here are some highlights. We stayed at Marc's parents on Friday night, in their RV which was kinda cool. They have the most awesome house with pool I have ever seen. I may try to load some video clips from the Bloom Turns One Party tonight. Spent Saturday night in Santa Fe at the Water Street Inn. What a cool place. They have happy hour on the roof deck, with wine, sangria, and tapas. Then for breakfast you get to choose what goodies you like, and they serve you on the roof deck, your room or in the kitchen. We chose the rooftop deck at 8:00am. They even have soy. I highly recommend this room for anyone traveling to the Sante Fe area. A co-worker friend of mine was nice enough to share a list of her favorite spots ( even from home, sick ). We tried a few of her recommendations, but they were SO good that they were booked and we couldn't get in, BUT we did go to Cafe Pasquale, which was a quaint, extremely tasteful place....more to come.
